Sackets Harbor Marathon & Half Marathon Sunday, September 5, 2027

About us

Two runners, one village, one wild idea.

In 2023 we put on a marathon in a village of thirteen hundred people. Four races later it has crowned champions from across the continent, sent runners to Boston, and turned the Sunday before Labor Day into the loudest morning of the year here.

Why we started it

To fill the village for a weekend

The mission hasn’t changed since the first race: bring runners to Sackets Harbor, get them into the shops and restaurants while they’re here, and give them a marathon worth the trip. For one weekend a year, the village is full of runners and the people who came with them, and that is the whole point.

Everything else follows from that. The course runs along Lake Ontario because that’s what people should see. The weekend is built around the village: come in Saturday, stay for lunch, run Sunday, and stay for lunch again. The aid stations are run by local teams because they’re the ones who make a Sunday morning feel like something. Small race, big-race feel: certified, Boston-qualifying, and a very good excuse to spend a weekend here.

Race directors

Karyn Reinhardt & Mark Congel

Karyn grew up in Sackets Harbor and has run more than 100 races, including 22 marathons (Boston four times, soon to be five), 35 half marathons, and an Ironman. Mark has 70+ finishes of his own, including 5 marathons, 6 half marathons, and a long list of trail and obstacle races. They live in Liverpool, NY, and built this race to be the one they’d want to run.

And the crew

Behind them is a small army of family, friends and neighbors: the volunteer coordinators, the operations crew, the DJ, the hype squad, the merch table, the 360° photo hosts, and the parking team waving you into a grass lot before sunrise. You'll meet them all on race weekend; they're the reason it feels like a family reunion.

In the news

Channel 7 has been here every year

WWNY has covered the race since before anyone had run a step of it, from the week of the first one to the village filling up four years later.

To everyone who has run, cheered, poured, parked, timed and towed for four years: thank you. Year five is for you.
